Drain hose core location and function

Evaporator box bottom drain hose 64539067600

Location: underneath the chassis on the passenger's side, right in the center of the evaporator box, connected to the chassis drain port via a hose with a diameter of approx. 10 mm 64531380729 connected to the chassis drain.

Function: When the air conditioner is cooling, the condensate produced by the heat exchange of the evaporator is discharged out of the car through this pipeline to prevent water from backing up into the car.

Risk of clogging: Long-term parking under trees or in dusty environments may lead to clogging of the pipeline, causing water to accumulate on the passenger side carpet and short circuits (BMW has recalled some of its models due to this problem).

Auxiliary drain port and associated parts

Chassis front drain port

An auxiliary drain port is provided on the side of the transmission or near the front fender to divert condensate and reduce pressure on the main drain line.

Evaporator connecting line

Drain hose 64531386488 is secured to the bottom evaporator connection by a snap, and some models have a modified seal (e.g., OE No. 64539209722 line piece for BMW X1) to improve leak resistance.

Drain pump (on some models)

High-end models are equipped with an electric drain pump to accelerate condensate drainage and avoid stagnant water due to slopes

Clogging Treatment and Preventive Maintenance

Unclogging Methods

Emergency Unclogging: Intercept 8-10mm diameter hose (e.g. milk tea straw) and insert it into the drain to physically unclog it.

Deep Cleaning: Disassemble the chassis guard and blow out the silt and leaves in the pipeline with a high pressure air gun.

Preventive Maintenance

Filter Replacement: Replace the air conditioning filter (activated carbon model is better) every year or 20,000km to reduce dust from entering the evaporator box.

Rainy season inspection: Before the rainy season, focus on cleaning the drainage port and test the drainage speed (normal should be in line).

Evaporator box cleaning: use endoscopic equipment to clean mold on the surface of the evaporator every 2 years to eliminate the source of odor
